Making, tinkering and hacking of fashion. Already in its third year our event #FASHIONTECH Berlin explores the convergence of fashion and technology. And we are happy to announce #FASHIONTECH LAB BERLIN at re:publica 2017! This versatile format fuses many disciplines. It presents new materials and textile technologies visitors can get their hands on at workshops at our makerspace. At the same time we want to explore the intersection of sociology or politics and fashion, fashion design and textile design at talkshows. What's in the future for the development and production of textiles? We are curious!
#FASHIONTECH LAB BERLIN is curated by re:publica. The series of events was born out of a cooperative effort between re:publica and PREMIUM International Fashion Trade Show. Bringing together gadgets, hacking and design this crossover format proves its importance with 3,500 participants at the most recent event in June 2016.
At the last #FASHIONTECH Berlin international experts presented their projects and offered interesting insights. The events featured speakers from Google, Brands4Friends / ebay Fashion, Pinterest, Amazon Fashion, WIRED Germany, Microsoft and Facebook, as well as representatives from startups and designers, including Laura Wass of WXYZ jewelry, Lisa Lang of ElektroCouture, 3M New Ventures' Thomas Andrae and 3D print designer Anouk Wipprecht.
Along with attending numerous talks, participants were able to use a dedicated exhibition area to directly engage with designers and entrepreneurs and get stuck in with some DIY action. They also attended workshops to learn about the full fashion-meets-tech spectrum and experimented with materials, including LEDs.
