The proposed panel wants to go beyond the discussion about the scale and scope of underrepresentation, sexism and structural problems of women in the electronic music scene and business. These issues have been discussed broadly – and controversially – at different panels and round tables showing that they can be discussed and experienced from heterogeneous perspectives among different groups of female musicians, feminists, activists, etc.

In 2013 a very striking survey of female:pressure – a platform and network for female artists, DJs, scholars, etc. in the scene – showed that there are much less female artists invited to events and festivals to play than their male colleagues. Even though there are so many talented women in the scene, they don’t get enough attention and possibility to release their music or attend as artists at events and festivals.

However, instead of discussing the severity of these issues themselves, we turn to the development of practicable solutions and policies that we can adopt in the scene and industry. For that, we address the following questions: How can we deal with stereotypes about women being bad at making music and understanding technology? How can we raise even more awareness of the here-described problems? How can we change the education system? What political acts are needed? How to implement them? etc.

To discuss these questions, we will invite different female and also male protagonists from the scene and business.

Points to be discussed include but are not limited to:

• Social expectation for women and the problems of education
• Courses from women to women
• Gender quota
• etc.
