Collective Textile - A knitted data visualization

Global Innovation Gathering (GIG)
re:publica 2017

Short thesis:

Together with the visitors of the re:publica 2017 we will produce a knitted data visualization.

Description:

Visitors have the opportunity to generate a personalized pattern, which is part of a continuous knit piece. Thus, a collectively produced textile documents and portrays the conference participants.

With the help of a short questionnaire personalized pixel pattern are generated. Questions like "How happy are you?" are translated into a pixel number and thus produce a rapport. For the translation of the data and the communication with the (hacked) knitting machine we use contributions from the open source community: ayab-knitting.com

The aim of the project is to produce a collective textile in the context of the conference theme "love out loud". Not only the production takes place together, but also the patterns of the knit reflect the variety of the visitors of the conference.
